‘I guarantee’ – Pundit expects Chelsea to make move for Spurs player this summer

Stan Collymore has predicted that Chelsea and Manchester United will vie for Harry Kane’s signature this summer, with the pundit expecting the centre-forward to finally call time on his time at Tottenham.

Over the last few days, most of the focus of the media has been on Antonio Conte’s future, with reports indicating that the most likely scenario is for the Italian to be sacked and for Ryan Mason to be put in charge on a temporary basis (Evening Standard).

Some reports have also focused on what the situation means for Kane, with Fabrizio Romano telling CaughtOffside on Monday that the 29-year-old’s future has now been put on the backburner by Spurs, who are now prioritising sorting out their managerial situation.

The Mirror’s Darren Lewis subsequently asserted on Tuesday that the England captain has decided not to sign a new contract with Spurs, with the North London club now having a decision to make on whether to risk letting him run into the final year of his contract.

Collymore believes that the situation unfolding around Conte’s future will be the final straw for Kane at Tottenham.

The former Liverpool man has now told CaughtOffSide: “The situation at Spurs is giving Harry Kane the perfect excuse to leave in the summer.

“He’s never had an easier way out. Seriously, who is honestly going to begrudge him a move elsewhere now?

“That man has done just about everything he can for Spurs but now, at the age of 29, soon to be 30, this summer is going to be possibly his last opportunity to move on and go to a club that stands a real chance of winning some major silverware.

“Whether that is Chelsea or Manchester United, who knows, but I guarantee that they’ll both be in the running for Kane come to the summer window.

“If I were Kane, I would do everything in my power to get a move to Manchester United, but that’s me speaking as an older former pro.

“The fact Chelsea are based in London will probably play a big part as Kane’s family life may mean he doesn’t want to relocate too far away from where he has been for the majority of his playing career.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Firstly, Kane is certainly not going to move to Chelsea and destroy his Tottenham legacy.

Secondly, the Blues are themselves struggling this season and will not be able to offer the England captain Champions League football, which is why the move will not be tempting for the Spurs star.

Manchester United are the only realistic destination for Kane this summer and it is not yet clear if the Red Devils are going to make the 29-year-old their top target ahead of the likes of Victor Osimhen.
