‘I have just been told’ – Journalist shares what he heard about potential Pochettino return

Tottenham Hotspur’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici is said to prefer to appoint Paulo Fonseca ahead of Mauricio Pochettino as the club’s next head coach, according to London World journalist Rahman Osman on Twitter.

Fonseca was heavily linked with the Tottenham hot seat following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho in April 2021 and the club spent a number of months searching for a replacement.

Tottenham had initially targeted Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte, but after failing to land either they are said to have set their sights on Fonseca and the former Roma boss had verbally agreed to a two-year contract.

Fonseca claimed that the situation changed after Daniel Levy brought Paratici to the club and they did not share the same principles which saw Spurs instead settle for Nuno Espirito Santo.

He told The Telegraph in September 2021: “The agreement was done. We were planning the pre-season and Tottenham wanted an offensive coach. It wasn’t announced but we planned pre-season players.
