‘I have not spoken’ – Serie A club president makes admission about Spurs-linked centre-back

Torino president Urbano Cairo has insisted that rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Gleison Bremer will not be sold in January.

Bremer is said to be on Tottenham’s wishlist ahead of the January transfer window, with the club’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici reportedly having a ‘clear intention’ of bringing the 24-year-old to North London next month.

Antonio Conte’s men are thought to be facing competition from the likes of Napoli, Inter Milan and AC Milan for Bremer, with Inter even thought to have spoken to the Brazilian’s representatives about a potential transfer.

It emerged last week that Tottenham’s London rivals West Ham and Chelsea had also added the Torino star to their transfer wishlist ahead of the January transfer window.

However, Cairo has now asserted that he has not spoken to any club regarding Bremer and that the centre-back will stay in Turn at least until the end of the season.

When asked if he had considered selling the defender, the Torino president told Calciomercato: “Absolutely not. “For the moment I have not spoken to anyone (about potential departures).

“Bremer is one of our players. I never thought of selling him in January. He will stay with us for (the whole of) this season, then we will see.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We cannot take Cairo’s statement at face value as it could be a negotiating tactic to get top dollar for Bremer.

I am not surprised that Spurs are reported to be keen on the Brazilian as he would be a perfect fit for Conte’s back three.

However, knowing what we do about the way Paratici operates, Tottenham will likely have a long list of centre-back targets rather than putting all their eggs in one of two baskets.
