‘I have patience’ – Conte enjoying Spurs experience but wants to win trophies

Antonio Conte has reiterated that he has the patience needed to improve Tottenham’s outlook but warns he does not want to let his ambition for silverware slip.

Spurs have struggled to build momentum in 2022 with their latest match seeing them lose 3-2 to fellow top-four hopefuls Manchester United.

Defeat at Old Trafford means Spurs have maintained a strange win-loss-win-loss pattern of late which has forced them into a state of playing catch-up in the second half of the campaign.

With Spurs out of all European and domestic cups available to them and with a sole focus on Premier League action, it provides a different scenario for Conte, who has been successful wherever he has managed.

The 52-year-old claims he is enjoying the challenge of improving the North London side’s projections, but does not want to ignore his goal of winning trophies going forward.

Conte said (via Football.London): “I think that every day I like to go to the training ground to work with these players. I’m doing a fantastic experience because I’m enjoying my time in Tottenham.

“For sure a different situation at Tottenham to my past. In the past, I fought to win trophies but this is a new challenge. The people have seen the commitment of everything I’m doing at the training ground to be the starting point.

“I have patience, I like to work. I like the work that we’re doing. At the same time, I don’t want to lose my ambition. This must be very clear to everybody. I repeat that I hope we are in the same way.”

Spurs will look to get back to winning ways on Wednesday with a trip to struggling Brighton. The clash on the south coast comes ahead of a key encounter against European chasers West Ham next weekend.

Spurs Web Opinion

Conte has a tough task on his hands but it is positive that he has remained intent on working hard to bring improvement to Spurs.

Trophies do seem pretty distant, though, and he obviously wants to be winning them which makes the summer transfer window even more important to get right so the squad can be strengthened.
