‘I haven’t come to shake it up’ – Hart opens up on why he decided to join Spurs

Joe Hart has admitted that he knew he was not coming to Tottenham as a number one but insisted that the move was the right fit for him since he wanted to return to the top level again.

Hart was England and Manchester City’s number one for many years and enjoyed tremendous success during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite helping City to two Premier League titles, Pep Guardiola did not think twice about shipping him out on loan to Torino soon after he arrived.

For the last few years, Hart has struggled to recapture the form that elevated him to the top of the game after his spell in Turin, as well as the subsequent stints at West Ham and Burnley, saw his stock fall considerably.

The goalkeeper admitted that he wanted to return to an environment where there is pressure to win every game.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: “I crave football. I realised I just love being at the top.

“I love being around a club where you play three games a week and if you don’t win it is a big deal.

“I am not stupid. That opportunity was not going to come in a given number one slot. After working out what Jose wanted from his squad and what he thought I could bring to it, it matched what I thought.

“I haven’t come to shake it up. I have come to make Tottenham better.”

The 33-year-old also admitted that Jose Mourinho was a factor in his decision to come to North London and revealed that he is enjoying working with the Portuguese coach.

He added: : “Jose is very clever at how he works the media. He is a different guy in his own environment, with his own players. He asks you to give your best and show your quality. That is how I work.

“I don’t claim to be the most talented guy in the world but I will give it everything.

“Trust works both ways. He definitely gives that and I enjoy working with him.”
