Kane triumphant in North London

Over 60,000 fans turned out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to catch a glimpse of Kane on his return to North London.

With his move to Bayern last summer leaving him with no chance to say farewell to the Spurs faithful, this was the perfect opportunity to right that wrong.

Kane started the game on the bench but was brought on with just over ten minutes to go. Despite a couple of long-range efforts on goal, the former Spurs man had little impact on the game but ended up on the winning side of a 3-2 scoreline.

Speaking to the press after the game, Kane said: “I am so used to coming here as the home player, been here so many times before so it was strange and putting this shirt on, being in the away dressing room, but I like to enjoy these occasions.

“I had an amazing career at Spurs, so many great memories and just great to see the fans again, so many players and staff I have a lot of relationships with.

“The game itself, I probably shouldn’t have been playing. I only trained yesterday but I was always going to play 10 minutes and it was good.

“Everything was really rushed through last year, so we didn’t have a chance (to say goodbye), but it was a great way to say thank you to all of them.

“The reception I got was amazing and great to clap them around the pitch after, those who stayed behind and I will always be thankful for every Spurs fan for the support they’ve given me through my whole career. It’s been incredible.

“I just appreciate them seeing me and me seeing them again.”

Tears, applause, and hugs

It was a rather uneventful game for Kane on the pitch, but there was plenty to note off it. As the 31-year-old sat on the bench at the start of the match, he was visibly moved by the trumpet and chorus of ‘When the Spurs Go Marching In’ before kick-off.

When Kane prepared to enter the game around the 80-minute mark, he was able to share an embrace with his former teammate and Spurs captain, Heung-min Son, who was leaving the field to be replaced by a future Tottenham star, Will Lankshear.

And, after the final whistle, Kane made sure to complete a lap of honour and applaud the Spurs fans, who returned the favour in an emotional reunion.

Spurs Web Opinion

It was really strange to see Kane back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and especially upsetting to see him tearing up at the start of the game.

But, it was nice to see the reception he got around the ground, and I’m really happy he finally got to say goodbye to the fans properly.
