Dutch journalist Valentijn Driessen has confidently asserted that he knows Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot is one of the names on Tottenham’s wishlist to replace Antonio Conte.
Slot has done a remarkable job since taking over at Feyenoord in the summer of 2021, completely transforming the side in a short space of time while working with a much lower budget than the likes of Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.
The Rotterdam-based club currently sit six points clear at the top of the Eredivisie league table and look on course to win their first league title since 1999.
It was The Times who first reported last week that the Dutch coach is one of Spurs’ top candidates to replace Antonio Conte in the summer.
Driessen believes that Slot is definitely on the Lilywhites’ wishlist and insisted that the 42-year-old will not think twice about taking the job in the summer if the Premier League giants come calling.
The journalist told Voetbal Primeur: “I think Conte’s dismissal is very good news for Arne Slot, because I know he is on a list at Tottenham.
“He first wants to become champion with Feyenoord and go far in the Europa League, but he’s definitely on the list.
“That would be a great challenge for him. I think he is open to it, because he was also open to Leeds United.
“Otherwise, he would have said ‘no’, because he submitted it to the Feyenoord management.
“If Tottenham want him, they can get him like that, they pay so much money…
“It’s nice that they’ve never won anything, because then you can be the first to win something.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Slot has done a tremendous job at Feyenoord and plays the kind of progressive football that Tottenham seemingly want.
However, it would be a gamble to appoint the 42-year-old, given that he is unproven outside the Eredivisie.
He might perhaps have to prove his chops at a club like Palace or Leeds before he becomes a safe bet for a top-six job.
