‘I like him a lot’ – Jose Mourinho sings the praises of Erik Lamela

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho, now has Erik Lamela to choose from in his starting line-ups after the Argentine made his first XI under the new head coach this week.

Mourinho decided to name Lamela from the start against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup after the winger had performed impressively from the bench since returning from injury.

Lamela’s entire Tottenham career has been defined by his vast long-term injuries, ruining his chances to ever earn a sustained spot in the first-team.

However, the Argentine is known for his incredible effort on the pitch in terms of closing the ball down and tracking back defensively, as well as his skill and creation.

Mourinho has now revealed that he likes Lamela as a player due to his quality and his attitude towards the team and the game.

Lamela has four goals and three assists in 18 games this season so far, although he missed 12 games with a hamstring issue and has been recovering ever since (TransferMarkt).

Jose said (Tottenham): “I like him a lot, since the moment when he was training just for two days and he told me he would help the team as best as he could before the Brighton game.

“I felt that the boy was really up to it, quality plus attitude. I knew that he was very important for us. We just hope he doesn’t have any more problems and he can develop from now.”
