Darren Bent is puzzled as to why many Tottenham fans do not seem to like Dejan Kulusevski.
Kulusevski had an up-and-down 2023/24 season
Kulusevski has had mixed success during his two-and-a-half years at Spurs. The Swede initially burst onto the scene when he arrived from Juventus in January of 2021 and was unplayable in his first six months at the club.
However, he struggled to replicate the same form during the 2022-23 campaign, with his displays leaving a lot to be desired.
Last season under Ange Postecoglou, the Swede was a mixed bag, producing some outstanding performances but at the same time also struggling for consistency.
In fact, one can argue that the 24-year-old’s best displays last term came when he was used as a number 10 owing to the injury to James Maddison.
Is Kulusevski well-liked at Tottenham?
Bent and Goldstein both confessed that they are fans of the Sweden international but the former Spurs striker insisted that Brennan Johnson needs to deliver more in his second season at N17.
Bent told talkSPORT: “I like Kulusevski. But they (Tottenham fans) don’t, but I like him.”
Goldstein responded: “So do I. A lot of people don’t (like him). I like the way he cuts in on his left peg. But it would be nice to have options because you have Brennan Johnson and Richarlison can also play out there.”
Bent then added: “I think his second season, Brennan Johnson, he needs to go up a level.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not think it is a case of Spurs fans disliking Kulusevski. I think a lot of us just find him quite frustrating to watch. Given the talent he possesses, should be influencing games a lot more.
He is simply not aggressive enough on the ball when he plays out wide, rarely tending to take on his man in one-on-one situations despite having the ability to go past defenders.
