‘I like his position’ – Graham Roberts highlights four players for praise in Spurs win

Tottenham legend, Graham Roberts has admitted on social media that he liked seeing Tanguy Ndombele employed in a deeper role against Sheffield United this afternoon after Spurs came away with a 3-1 win.

Ndombele started alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as the two midfield pivots as Jose Mourinho switched to a back three at Bramall Lane.

The midfielder completed all ninety minutes and not only showed his quality in possession but also put in a decent defensive shift off the ball.

The 23-year-old produced a moment of magic in the second half to help Tottenham seal the result as he lobbed Aaron Ramsdale from an impossible angle with the outside of his right-foot, despite being under pressure.

Roberts was impressed with the wondergoal and also reserved special praise for Harry Kane, who scored his 12th league goal of the season to draw level with Son Heung-min and move one behind Mohamed Salah in the race for the golden boot.

He also praised both Joe Rodon and Ben Davies at half-time for their defensive performances against the Blades.

Ndombele’s performance in possession today showed what we lack when we play Moussa Sissoko in a double-pivot. We kept the ball much better than we usually do and even though Ndombele might not provide the same level of defensive cover that Sissoko does, we are much better in transitioning the ball from defence to attack when the 23-year-old plays deeper.
