“I like people who set the standard” – Eric Dier impressed by summer arrival

While the return of Gareth Bale to Tottenham Hotspur dominated the summer transfer headlines, the arrival of another player went somewhat under the radar in comparison.

Tottenham parted with a fee in the region of £15m plus bonuses to land former Southampton skipper Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Sky Sports).

The Dane struggled in his first competitive outing for his new club during the 1-0 defeat to Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September but has been one of the North Londoners standout performers ever since.

Eric Dier, who occupied the role which Hojbjerg plays before deciding to drop into the heart of the Spurs defence has sung the praises of the 25-year-old and the impact he has had at the club.

Hojbjerg’s desire to succeed has been clear for all to see during his combative displays with Dier having been impressed with the character of his team-mate both on and off the pitch.

The England international went as far as claiming that he would welcome more players to the squad who share the same levels of professionalism and hunger as to what Hojbjerg displays.

He told the official Spurs site: “He’s been a fantastic addition on and off the pitch. Off the pitch, I like people who set the standard by the way they act. Pierre is very professional, looks after himself very well, works very hard every day. The more players like that, the better.”
