‘I listened to Antonio’ – Brendan Rodgers makes Spurs comparison after Conte comments

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has concurred with Antonio Conte’s claim that it is hard to challenge at a high level with a squad lacking the depth to compete.

Rodgers’ is currently struggling in the Leicester hot seat with the Foxes sat in the lower half of the Premier League table having gone five games without a win.

Leicester did manage to record a win in the first leg of their Europa Conference League round of 32 tie against Randers on Thursday, but pressure has ceased to ease following a 2-1 defeat to Wolves.

However, the Midlands outfit has had its fair share of hindrances with injury concerns ravaging the squad at points throughout the campaign.

Leicester’s squad problems can be reminiscent to concerns shared by Tottenham head coach Conte, who admitted the options currently at his disposal may not be adequate enough to be a truly competitive force (Sky Sports).

Rodgers felt inclined to agree with the Italian’s comments, suggesting a similar view can be held in terms of his squad.

He said (via Leicester Mercury): “I listened to Antonio [Conte] and the squad he has and yet he feels he needs much, much more to be challenging in the top four, so you can only imagine the challenge it is for the likes of ourselves.

“We’ll keep fighting. For me, it’s about returning to our level of football, and I know in time we will get to that. We’ll get players back. That’s all you can do.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Leicester have a slightly different issue to Tottenham, in that they have been missing players through injury for a long spell of time.

Conte’s concerns about Spurs were to do with the way the club used the transfer market to give him the best possible chance of being competitive. But he is right about the squad not being at his preferred level, so that leaves the summer to address that.
