“I love being here” – Former Ajax player reveals he wants to stay at Tottenham

Jan Vertonghen is now entering his seventh year at Tottenham Hotspur following his move from Ajax.

The central defender has been a mainstay in the Spurs defence throughout his time in North London but is now in the last year of his contract.

Vertonghen has arguably been Tottenham’s most consistent performer over recent seasons with his calm and composed demeanour and put in one of his best performances last season when filling in at left back during the Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

The Belgian was part of the Spurs squad which jetted off to the Far East yesterday for Sunday’s match against Juventus in Singapore followed by a meeting with Manchester United next Thursday in Shanghai.

The 32-year-old has expressed his desire to remain at Tottenham after stating that he loves being part of the club and his family are also settled in the capital.

He told Sky Sports News at 09:00 on 18/7/19: “I’ve got a year left, I will have to see what happens,” he told reporters.

“I love being here. I feel great with the manager, he’s been supporting me and making me a better player.

“I’ve got everything I want. It’s the best club to play for at the moment.”
