‘I love everything about him’ – Jermaine Jenas wants Spurs man to stay for five more years

Jermaine Jenas has been reflecting on Ange Postecoglou’s first season at Spurs, and insists he wants the manager to stick around for the long term after being impressed with what he saw this year.

Postecoglou took over at Tottenham last summer off the back of a disastrous campaign under Antonio Conte, and the Australian came with very little expectation or faith in his ability by and large.

Any doubts were laid to rest fairly swiftly, as Postecoglou made an unbeaten start to the Premier League in the first ten games.

Sadly, injury issues and a dip in form towards the end of the campaign saw the Lilywhites having to settle for fifth place and Europa League football next season. Still, a great deal of progress was made on the year before, and it has been deemed by many to be a successful first season for Postecoglou.

Room for improvement, but Jenas is happy with Ange

Jermaine Jenas is certainly happy with how things have gone under the new manager overall despite those issues, and he told Sky Sports he hopes Postecoglou sticks around for a while.

Jenas said: “Towards the end of the season, the midfield completely vanished on him, conceding too many goals, and the style of play sort of dipped a little bit, too. There was a point at the start of the season where you were like, ‘My god, this team is incredible.’ They have to analyse how that fell off a cliff.

“[Postecoglou] couldn’t make his mind up as to what his best midfield was, which hits the rhythm and the flow of the team. But there were so many positives. He lost his best player, one of the best strikers on the planet… you put those 25 goals into Spurs and they’re in the Champions League.

“I really hope the manager gets what he wants this summer to build a team. From what I’ve seen of Ange Postecoglou, he needs to be at that football club for at least five years. I love everything about him, the straightforward attitude, the style of football, and the kind of players he wants at the football club.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Totally agree. There are a few issues to resolve, and the squad does need work, but by and large it was a fantastic first season for Ange, and things will only get better. I also really hope he’s here for the long haul.
