‘I love the club’ – Spurs star puts transfer rumours to bed after recall to the starting XI

The North London Dery always throws up a few surprises, with the first one yesterday coming before a ball was even kicked at the Emirates.

Pochettino dropped Jan Vertonghen from the squad entirely against Aston Villa, before leaving him as an unused substitute against Man City and Newcastle.

However, he threw the Belgian back into action alongside Toby Alderweireld yesterday in the NLD, which would have delighted the Spurs faithful.

This comes after there were rumours of a fall out between the gaffer and Vertonghen, with reports even stating that Jan could leave for the likes of Bayer Leverkusen before the window shut (Express).

However, the defender is now back in the starting line up and has been talking to the press about his love for the club and desire to win trophies in North London.

This will put to bed any rumours of falling outs behind the scenes and the possibility of a late transfer for Vertonghen.

On the early shutting of the Prem transfer window, Jan said (Mirror): “England made that decision, expecting all the other leagues would follow. In the end they didn’t. Or not yet.

“That’s definitely no benefit for the Premier League. I’m not sure about what can change but it would be good if everyone was on the same page with it.

“No. I just want to focus on football now. When you don’t play, you realise how important it is and it’s extremely important for me.

“I’ve been so long with the guys, I love the club and I just want to play as much as I can. I feel great and I just want to help the club to win trophies.”
