‘I love the way he plays’ – Eric Dier gives verdict on new Tottenham signing

Eric Dier has revealed that he loves the way Cristian Romero plays and believes the central defender will be an excellent addition for Tottenham Hotspur.

Romero, 23, joined the club in August on the back of an impressive campaign last season, in which he was named the Serie A defender of the year and enjoyed a Copa America triumph with Argentina.

In recent weeks, he has started to get into the swing of things in North London, with his latest showing at the heart of defence powering Spurs to a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.

It stood as the third occasion in which Dier featured alongside Romero, and the Englishman has been impressed with his style of defending and how he has settled into life at Spurs.

Dier told the club’s official website: “Cristian looks good, I think he’s going to be a fantastic player for the club.

“I love the way he plays. It’s enjoyable to watch and he’s enjoyable to play with. He’s very aggressive, very much on the front foot and very clever as well, the way he uses his body, the way he reads the game.

“He’s sharp, and so quick to execute. He’s very sneaky in taking the ball away and using different angles.”

Dier also opened up on how the rest of Tottenham’s new signings have settled in, including the likes of Pierluigi Gollini, Bryan Gil and Emerson Royal.

He added: “Cristian has settled in really well. He has Gio (Lo Celso) here as well, which helps. It’s an easy group to settle into, he’s settled in well, a really good guy.

“The same goes for Emerson, he’s settled in so well, a great character, a lot of fun, works very hard. I’ve been really impressed with him, his work rate, always in the gym, always looking after himself.

“Bryan as well, I’ve been impressed with him, in a new country, and he plays with a lot of courage, a lot of confidence, always wants the ball, never hiding. That’s great to see. He has a lot of quality as well.

“Pier’s been amazing. It was probably easier for him to settle because he speaks really good English and has been in England before.

“He brings great energy to the dressing room, great energy to training, always giving 100 per cent, which isn’t always easy for goalkeepers if they’re not playing all the time, but his commitment in training and commitment to get better is fantastic.

“He’s another big character and he brings a lot to the dressing room, during the week, matchdays, and he’s settled in so quickly. Nothing but positives.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is good to know that all of the new signings have settled into the club well, as they are going to play a role in freshening up the team.

They have all had some chances to show what they were brought in for, and hopefully they continue adding their individual quality to the side.
