‘I love this guy’ – Son Heung-min showers praise on Tottenham teammate

Son Heung-min lavished praise on Brennan Johnson for the impact he made off the bench against Crystal Palace, adding that he loves playing alongside the Welshman.

While Johnson might not have yet justified the £47.5m fee that Tottenham paid to sign him from Nottingham Forest last summer, he has certainly shown plenty of glimpses of the quality he possesses.

Over recent weeks, the Welshman has often made the difference as a substitute and that was once again the case on Saturday as the 22-year-old replaced Rodrigo Bentancur on 63 minutes with the home side trailing 1-0, and he set up two goals to help the Lilywhites emerge 3-1 winners.

His work for Tottenham’s opening goal was particularly impressive as Johnson chased what seemed like a lost cause, nicked the ball from Joachim Andersen, and evaded another tackle to get into the box before picking out Timo Werner, who turned the ball home into a near-empty net.

Brennan Johnson is impressing Heung-min Son

When the Tottenham captain was asked if the former Forest star brought the energy that the side needed, he told Spurs Play: “Yes, that’s what we need, especially the way we play. We want to play high, high intensity and especially who’s coming from the bench has to make an impact, like Brennan did today. Brennan did two amazing assists.

“I like this guy, I love this guy. And I just want to help him as much as I can. Even when we started the game, I just told him, just make sure you’re ready. You’re going to make the difference when you come on, so that’s what we need. Brennan did a fantastic job, and just wanted to give him a big hug.

“Goals, obviously, he’s missing, but I’m definitely sure that when he works for the team, and the way he works like this, the goals will come automatically. I’m 100 percent sure.”

Brennan is evidently extremely popular in the dressing room and that is not surprising, considering the selfless way in which he plays. The 22-year-old is a tireless worker off the ball and his teammates clearly value the effort that he puts in consistently.
