‘I love Tottenham’ – Bale opens up on the reasons behind his Spurs return

Gareth Bale has admitted that returning to Tottenham Hotspur was an easy decision for him to make last summer, insisting that he never stopped loving the club where he made his name.

Until a couple of weeks ago, it seemed like what was supposed to be a fairytale return to Spurs was turning into a bit of a nightmare for Bale.

The Welshman was struggling to get a run of matches in the side and his performances were not up to the required standard, with some pundits writing him off as a flop.

However, Bale now seems to have well and truly turned a corner, with the 31-year-old demonstrating over the last several weeks that he still has a lot of football left in him.

The winger, who has now scored six goals in his last six appearances, joined Tottenham’s official Twitch channel along with Joe Rodon to answer some questions from Spurs fans on Tuesday.

When asked why he decided to return to Spurs, he said (as relayed by Football.London): “Everyone knows how much I love Tottenham.

“I left Madrid because I wanted to play, I wanted to help the team and to get back to a place where I knew gave me so much love and it was very easy to make the decision.

“It’s something (the move) that has helped me get my head down and concentrate on just football.”

Bale was also asked to name the best player he has played with during his career and the Tottenham star did not have to think long on his answer.

He responded: “The best has been Cristiano Ronaldo, for the goals, the titles that we have won together. Without doubt, he is one of the best footballers of all time.”
