‘I must be honest’ – Conte opens up on Kane form despite lack of goals

Antonio Conte has said that he is happy with the performances of Harry Kane despite the Tottenham striker still searching for scoring form.

The 28-year-old has struggled in front of goal at club level this season despite thriving for England on the international stage, netting just one Premier League goal in 11 appearances.

Kane tallied his first goal under Conte in the miserable 2-1 defeat to Slovenian side NS Mura on Thursday, and will be aiming to turn around his wretched domestic form against Burnley on Sunday.

The Italian coach admitted he is not concerned with the England captain’s stuttering form in front of goal and is pleased to be working with a striker of his calibre.

Conte also added the Spurs talisman’s work rate has been a valuable asset to the squad aside from his lack of goals.

He said (via Football.London): “I must be honest, Harry, it’s important to score but if I am to judge Kane’s performance against Leeds and Everton, I am very happy.

“He is a striker with great talent, a world class striker but at the same time it is very difficult to find a player with his talent that works like him and he is a fantastic player and I am very happy to be his coach.

“Outside you can speak about the player to say he is good, but only when you train them can you understand the value of the player and Kane is a top, top player.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Kane’s scoring stats for Spurs in the league have been well below par and far from anything we’ve seen from him before. He has been working hard for the team instead, though, but hopefully we’ll be able to see him get going ahead of a busy run of fixtures.
