‘I need to play’ – Midfielder who was allegedly open to Spurs transfer opens up on future

Julian Draxler has opened the door to a potential exit from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season after reportedly wanting to join Tottenham in the January transfer window.

Draxler, who signed a new contract until 2024 last year, has found opportunities come in limited fashion at PSG this season.

He has recorded just 861 minutes in 24 appearances under Mauricio Pochettino while earning just five starting berths in Ligue 1 (Transfermarkt).

And ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later this year, the German international’s eyes will surely be on staking his claim to earn a place in Hansi Flick’s final squad, which could mean leaving PSG this summer.

He said (via SportsMax): “My situation in the club is not easy – I lack the rhythm and I need to play more games.

“I haven’t spoken to the national coach about it, but he has already told us as a team that he needs fit players who are in rhythm. You’ll see what happens in the summer.”

Draxler’s revelation comes after Tottenham were linked with the possibility of acquiring him during the winter window.

90min reported the 28-year-old was willing to make a switch to North London alongside Georginio Wijnaldum in a deal that would have seen Tanguy Ndombele move the other way.

However, Ndombele secured a return to Lyon on loan while Alli moved to Premier League strugglers Everton on deadline day.

Draxler, as a more creative player, could definitely be a useful acquisition for Spurs but the problem is he hasn’t played as much as he really should have at this stage of his career.

We also don’t know for sure just how much impact he would have on the team and his contract length could become a sticking point when it comes to a transfer fee.
