‘I owe him a lot’ – Rumoured Spurs target claims he is indebted to Kulusevski

AZ Alkmaar winger Jesper Karlsson, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, has been speaking to the Swedish press about his relationship with Dejan Kulusevski and his decision to change his representation.

Karlsson hit the limelight last season with his outstanding debut campaign at Alkmaar following his switch to the club in 2021, with the winger scoring 21 goals and managing 16 assists across the campaign (Transfermarkt).

The 24-year-old has continued to excel this season, with eight goals and eight assists to his name across all competitions so far in 2022-23.

Jeunes Footeux reported during the January transfer window that Tottenham were one of the clubs who were eyeing a move for the prolific Swede, alongside the likes of Fulham, Brighton and Manchester United.

Recently, it has emerged that Karlsson is also on the radars of Napoli, Fiorentina, PSV Eindhoven and Celta Vigo ahead of the summer (Tribal Football).

While speaking about his decision to change agents, the attacker has now revealed that it was Kulusevski who introduced him to his new representative.

Karlsson told Fotbollskanalen: “I had been with Nordic Sky since I was 15 or 16 years old. For a long time, I knew I wanted to try something else.

“I got a good feeling with [World Soccer Agency] and then it had to be that way.”

When asked if he made the change with a view to a January transfer, the winger responded: “Not last winter, no. It wasn’t. It was more of a long-term plan. Then, there is a high level of them.

“I have spoken to Dejan, who introduced me to them. I owe him a lot there. It feels good.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am always sceptical about the idea of signing attackers from the Eredivisie as the step up to the Premier League is quite high, given the quality and physicality of defenders in English football.

The likes of Hakim Ziyech, Steven Bergwijn, and Anthony have all struggled to replicate a similar level of output in England as they did in the Netherlands.
