‘I promise’ – Guglielmo Vicario shares touching farewell message to Hugo Lloris

After 11 years at the club, Hugo Lloris has now left Tottenham Hotspur to join Los Angeles FC, and his successor, Guglielmo Vicario, has shared a touching tribute to the Spurs legend on social media.

Hugo Lloris called time on his incredible career with Tottenham this week, having made 444 appearances for the Lilywhites (Transfermarkt) and captaining the club between 2015 and 2023.

The Frenchman will undoubtedly go down as a Spurs legend, but it’s safe to say it was more than time for him to move on. Lloris’ poor form last season saw him replaced by new signing Guglielmo Vicario in the summer.

The Italian has firmly established himself as the new number one in North London, putting in top displays throughout the season to usher in a new era for Spurs.

With no future at the club under Ange Postecoglou, and his contract set to expire in the summer, the decision was made for Lloris to depart this month. He will now begin a new chapter in his career in the MLS, with Los Angeles FC.

Guglielmo Vicario makes promise to Hugo Lloris

Sharing a post to Instagram, Vicario made a pledge to fill Lloris’ gloves and serve the club in his absence, and wished his former teammate all the best for the future.

He wrote: “Hugo, good luck for this new chapter. Thank you for being so welcoming. You have been incredible for this club. I promise I will do my best.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I love the fact that Hugo Lloris insisted he would stay at Spurs until his successor was truly found, and he clearly knew that the time had come now in light of Vicario’s performances.

If Vicario can give anywhere near as much as Hugo did for Spurs, then we will have a top keeper on our hands for the next decade.
