‘I promise you’ – Heung-min Son sends end of season message to Spurs fans

Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-min Son has shared a message with fans on social media, and admitted the season did not go to plan for him.

Son was prolific in the 2021/22 season and ended the campaign with a share of the Premier League Golden Boot award. He scored 23 league goals last year for Spurs (Transfermarkt).

However, this season has been a different story, for both Son and the whole Tottenham Hotspur squad. Poor performances and results left the Lilywhites with an eighth-place finish in the league.

For Son, it was a difficult campaign, with a return of only ten Premier League goals and six assists (Transfermarkt). The 30-year-old looked a shadow of his former self at times and was clearly lacking in confidence.

Now the season is over, Son has taken some time away from North London and has been reflecting on his own contributions.

On Instagram, Son said: “Just returned to Korea after finishing the season. Took time to come back and reflect on last season. It’s a shame that I wasn’t good enough as a team as well as the season I thought and expected. 

“But I would like to say thank you to all the fans who have sent me so much support in this difficult season.

“Thank you very much to each and every one of the fans who have been supporting me day and night in Korea, who came to the stadium directly and online to support me this season.

“I promise you that I will recharge well as I was lacking and come back next season with a better and stronger look.”

I have no doubt that Sonny will put this disappointing campaign behind him and come back strong next year. He needs the right manager, someone who will nurture his confidence, and allow him to thrive in the system at Spurs.
