Micky van de Ven has spoken in glowing terms of Cristian Romero’s attributes as a defender and a leader at Tottenham Hotspur.
For the first time since the partnership of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld was broken up, Tottenham can boast of having a world-class centre-back pairing again, with Romero and Van de Ven forging a brilliant understanding with one another with each passing game.
The duo complement each other well, with the Dutchman’s recovery pace and composure at the back allowing the Spurs vice-captain to be at his aggressive best.
Romero has showered praise on his centre-back partner over recent weeks, admitting last month that it is quite easy to play with the 22-year-old and even describing him as one of the best in his position across the Premier League (Sky Sports’ James Savundra).

It is now Van de Ven’s turn to return the compliment, with the former Wolfsburg man describing his teammate as a ‘world-class player’.
The Netherlands international told Optus Sport about Romero: “For me, he is world-class. He is a leader. He is always one hundred per cent. He is a top-class player with the ball and without the ball when defending.
“I can promise you he is not scared of anyone. He keeps going every game. From day one here he has helped me. He is just a world-class player.”

From the way Romero and Van de Ven talk about one another, it seems like they have a man crush on each other. The fact that the pair get along off the pitch is excellent for the team as their communication will be that much better on the pitch.
