‘I proudly arrived’ – Spurs’ newest signing poses in photo from training ground

Emerson Royal has taken to Instagram to share a photo of himself having completed his first day of training with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Brazilian defender jetted from Spain to England yesterday and has linked up with his new side at Hotspur Way as he begins life as a Spurs player.

Emerson sealed his switch to the North Londoners on deadline day for a Є25million (£21.4miillion) fee from Barcelona and had remained in Spain until yesterday.

He previously admitted that he wanted to stay at the Nou Camp but had no choice in leaving due to the club’s financial problems (Marca).

The 22-year-old referenced the fact that yesterday was Tottenham’s birthday, having been formed on 5th September 1882 and that he was grateful to have been welcomed with open arms by all at the club.

The right-back has promised to repay the faith shown in him with everything he has and will now continue to train with the squad ahead of Saturday’s visit to Crystal Palace.

Emerson impressed during his two-year loan stint at Real Betis and now has the opportunity to prove his worth in the Premier League, and finds himself battling for the spot on the right-hand side of the defence along with Matt Doherty and Japhet Tanganga.

Fans need to show some patience with Emerson to give him time not only to adapt to the pace and physicality of the Premier League, but also with life off the pitch. Thankfully he has Lucas Moura, who was superb at welcoming Carlos Vinicius to the club and helping him to settle in.
