‘I really wanted to go to Tottenham’ – Star makes transfer admission

Willian Jose has hit out at his current club, Real Sociedad for treating him poorly, claiming he wanted to make a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Jose told Noticias de Gipuzkoa in an interview that Real Sociedad had promised to let him leave if a big club who were playing in the Champions League came knocking.

He revealed that Tottenham, who ticked both of those boxes at the time, did come in for him after Jose spoke to Mourinho on the phone.

The Guardian reported at the time, in January 2020, that Spurs and the Spanish club were £11m apart in their valuation of the striker.

However, a deal never materialised and Jose eventually moved to Wolves on loan for the second half of the 2020/21 season, although he hardly set the Premier League alight.

Wolves also reported at the time that they had the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Tottenham only wanted Jose because Kane was injured, so it perhaps worked out best for all involved that the deal never happened, especially with COVID-19 hitting. I hope for Jose’s sake that he gets his move this summer though.
