‘I respect that’ – Thierry Henry backs Kane to break Shearer’s PL record

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has described Harry Kane as the ‘complete striker’ and claimed the Tottenham Hotspur star will break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record.

Kane is enjoying one of his best starts to a Premier League campaign this year, and currently has nine goals in his first 11 matches (Transfermarkt). He’s also playing some of his best football, dropping deep and creating chances for his teammates.

The incredible range of passing and vision Kane possesses make him not just one of the most potent strikers in the Premier League right now, but one of the most adaptable and impressive players in world football.

He now has 192 Premier League goals to his name, and Kane is slowly but surely creeping up on Alan Shearer’s record of 260 goals, a Premier League record (PremierLeague.com). Kane is now just 14 goals behind Wayne Rooney, and could potentially surpass that this season.

Kane’s performances this year have not gone unnoticed, and even Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has offered praise for the Tottenham man.

Speaking on Prime Video’s coverage (19/10/2022, 7:30 pm) of the Manchester United versus Tottenham Hotspur game, Henry even backed Kane to eventually break the all-time goalscoring record in the Premier League.

He said: “He has become the complete striker. I love that. I respect that. Alan Shearer’s all-time record is gonna go.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Everyone talks about Erling Haaland’s goalscoring exploits since his arrival in the Premier League, but there’s no way he could do that and contribute in other areas of the pitch like Harry Kane does. I honestly don’t think there’s anyone in world football, apart from maybe Lionel Messi, who can offer such an all-round game like Harry Kane does.

If Kane does indeed sign a new deal with Spurs and sees out his playing career in North London, there’s every chance he can break Shearer’s record. At 29 years old, he has at least four more years where he can perform close to this level, and if he can score 20 a season in each of those years, he’s got it.
