“I think he could be special” – Some Spurs plead with Daniel Levy to buy £18m-rated striker

Some Spurs fans on social media are convinced that Ollie Watkins would serve as a great understudy to Harry Kane and have pleaded with Daniel Levy to buy the Brentford striker.

The Bees’ loss to Fulham in the playoff final against Fulham has condemned them to another season in the wilderness of the Championship.

Thomas Frank’s side have won many admirers with their free-flowing style of football this season, with their attacking trio of Said Benrahma, Ollie Watkins and Bryan Mbeumo proving handful for defences to handle all season.

With Brentford’s failure to win promotion to the Premier League comes the risk that their stars will get picked off by bigger clubs this summer.

Benrahma has already been linked with a move to Tottenham (Daily Star) but some Spurs fans believe that Watkins is the one that the Lilywhites need more than the attacking midfielder.

BBC Sport have claimed that the 24-year-old, who netted 25 goals in the Championship last season (transfermarkt.com), has a release clause of £18million in his contract.

Some Spurs fans believe that a move for the Brentford star would be a no-brainer at the reported price.

Spurs Web Opinion

We have seen many times in the past that strikers can sometimes be prolific in the Championship but fail to make the step up to the Premier League. So I am always sceptical when it comes to signing goalscorers from the Championship, particularly someone in the age bracket of Watkins, who cannot be considered young anymore. I would prefer a tried and tested option like Callum Wilson, who is guaranteed to get goals in the Premier League.
