‘I think I am happy with him’ – Pochettino on Serge Aurier’s season so far

It has been a nightmare month for Serge Aurier in a Tottenham shirt, ever since his performance against Southampton in the Premier League.

Aurier put in two good games against Crystal Palace and Leicester City, before his form seemed to drop off a cliff against the Saints.

Spurs were leading the match at home and cruising before the Ivorian picked up two needless yellow cards to see him make the early walk down the tunnel.

Tottenham just about made it out with all three points that day, but Aurier’s woeful performance in the Champions League was a big contributor to several of the goals conceded in the 7-2 embarrassment against Bayern Munich.

Back in the side yet again against Liverpool at Anfield, Aurier gave away a penalty just as it felt as if Spurs might be able to see out the draw for a valuable point.

Despite all this, Pochettino remains happy with the right-back (Football London): “I think I am happy with him. Of course today he’s not happy and nobody would be happy, it’s normal when you give away a penalty. Of course, I understand that as well as anyone. You feel like you’re guilty but it’s not like this.

“Of course nothing to say about him or the squad. I am behind our squad, supporting them. We have 29 players, they will all have the opportunity to play and nothing to say. After five years and a half at Tottenham, it is a time to all be together and show our support.”
