Debutant Sebastien Bassong was delighted to score the winning goal for Tottenham Hotspur in the 2-1 win against Liverpool.
The recent signing from Newcastle United scored with a well-placed header to put Spurs back in front after Steven Gerrard had levelled the score minutes earlier from the penalty spot. Benoit Assou-Ekotto had opened the scoring in the first-half with a fantastic strike into the top corner.
Bassong told Sky Sports: “I think it was the perfect debut for me in my first official game for Spurs. I am really happy to score to help give the win.
When asked about how it was to play alongside Ledley King, he commented: “Yeah it was really easy next to Ledley because each time he helped me. I just have to work hard like him.
“When you remember the start of last season for us to win this first game it is really good for the confidence. It is really good for all the team and players in the head and mind, that’s great.”
