“I want to keep top players” – Premier League boss on Spurs-linked midfielder

Wolves boss Bruno Lage has insisted that he is confident that rumoured Tottenham target, Adama Traore will still be at the club on September 1.

Traore has put in two fantastic displays against Leicester and Tottenham in the first two games of the season even though Wolves have lost both encounters by a 1-0 scoreline.

Reports emerged on Monday, less than 24 hours after the pacy winger gave nightmares to the Spurs defence, that the North London club had accelerated talks with Wolves regarding a deal for the 25-year-old.

Sources subsequently revealed that the Black Country club had rejected Spurs’ loan offer with an option to buy Traore for £40m.

It was suggested that the Lilywhites were then negotiating with Lage’s men on changing the option to buy the winger to an obligation.

However, The Telegraph claimed on Friday that Wolves had let Spurs know that Traore is not for sale this summer.

Lage has now stated that he wants to keep hold of the former Middlesbrough man and insisted that the club are yet to receive any bids for the Spanish international.

When asked about Traore’s future, he told the Birmingham Mail: “We are confident (he will stay). I want to keep top players with me.

“It’s not just about Adama, it’s about all the players. I don’t want anyone to go.

“What I want is top players to come to help us in this process. No (bids).”

The one reason I do not think one can rule out Wolves selling Traore is because of the fact that the 25-year-old has just two years left on his contract. So, if he does not sign an extension, this is the last window that Wolves will likely be able to get a big fee for him.
