‘I want to leave’- 26-year-old Spurs and Liverpool target makes transfer intentions clear

Rumoured Tottenham target Teun Koopmeiners claims he has already informed Atalanta of his desire to leave the club at the end of the season.

Koopmeiners has been the main engine of Atalanta’s midfield since arriving at the club two and half years ago, with the Dutchman dazzling with his all-round play.

The 26-year-old, who has 12 goals and four assists across all competitions so far this campaign, has been mooted as a target for Spurs by various Italian outlets recently.

This includes an update from the print edition of Tuttosport (via Sport Witness) last month, which claimed that Tottenham have already begun work to sign the Netherlands international.

Gazzetta dello Sport suggested a few weeks ago that Spurs could face competition from Juventus for the 26-year-old’s services while CalcioMercato added that Liverpool could also challenge the Lilywhites for the player.

The latter even asserted that Atalanta have not given up on their hopes of holding on to the Dutchman and are hopeful that he might stay put if they qualify for the Champions League.

Koopmeiners wants a summer transfer amid Spurs links

However, Koopmeiners has now made it clear that he is seeking a fresh challenge this summer, revealing that he has already communicated his decision to the Serie A side.

When quizzed on the speculation over his future, the midfielder told De Telegraaf: “I have told Atalanta that I want to leave the club in the summer.

“I hope there will be options to consider this year… I’ve had an amazing time at Atalanta and I hope they will get a big sum.”

Atalanta tend to drive a hard bargain as we saw with the Rasmus Hojlund deal last summer. Given that Koopmeiners has three years left on his contract at the Bergamo club, they would likely demand upwards of £60m for the Dutchman.

His price could go up even further if the 26-year-old impresses for the Netherlands at the Euros. With Lucas Bergvall also set to arrive at Tottenham this summer, it remains to be seen if the Premier League side would want to pay a huge fee for the Atalanta star.
