‘I want to try to stay’ – Antonio Conte on the battle he is facing at Tottenham

Antonio Conte has admitted that Tottenham are in the race for the top four, but he wants to stay in that battle for the rest of the season.

There have been so many twists to the top four story over the past two weeks, with Spurs looking down and out until Arsenal and Man United dropped points in back-to-back games.

Suddenly, a four-win streak had put Spurs back into contention, only for them to dent their own hopes with a flat performance in the 1-0 defeat to Brighton.

Although Arsenal were defeated by Southampton on that same day, Spurs have taken a hit in the past 24 hours when the Gunners won their game in hand away at Stamford Bridge.

Now Tottenham are level on points with their North London rivals, above only on goal difference, with Man United lurking a few points further behind.

Conte has insisted that Tottenham must battle with Arsenal, United, West Ham and Wolves until the very end, rather than dropping out of the race before its conclusion.

He said (Football London): “Now for sure we are in this race, I want to try to stay until the end. We know very well the difficulty.

“I don’t think Chelsea can go in this race because Chelsea is in my opinion in a different level. They are there because they missed some games but they must stay in this race.

“We have to fight with Arsenal who showed yesterday to be in good form, with Man United, West Ham and also there is Wolverhampton.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I think Spurs will be in the race for the rest of the season now, but the final top-four place could be won by a single point or even goal difference. If Spurs could get into a position where they are three points clear in fourth heading into the North London Derby, that would be amazing.
