‘I was a little surprised’ – Alexander Isak was impressed by Kulusevski’s team talk

Alexander Isak has admitted that he was surprised by the pre-match speech that Dejan Kulusevski delivered ahead of Sweden’s clash against Albania on Monday.

Sweden are currently in a transitionary phase after failing to qualify for the European Championship this summer, which is majorly disappointing for the Scandinavian side, given their recent history.

They are now building a squad for the future, with Kulusevski very much being one of the leaders of the young side.

The 23-year-old has already been capped 37 times for his country and is arguably their most important attacking player, and he once again made a decisive contribution against Albania on Monday, setting up the only goal of the game with a perfectly directed cross from the right.

Dejan Kulusevski impressed with his team talk

The Tottenham man revealed a couple of days ago that manager Jon Dahl Tomasson had asked him to deliver the pre-match speech, confessing that he took inspiration from some of the talks that Ange Postecoglou has delivered to the Spurs players this season (Fotbollskanalen).

Isak was impressed with his teammate’s words, stating that the winger spoke with ‘gusto’.

When asked about Kulusevski’s address to the squad, the Newcastle man told Aftonbladet: “He did well actually, I was a little surprised. Not that he could deliver that speech, but it was still his first speech and he delivered it with gusto.”

I would not be surprised if Kulusevski is handed the captain’s armband for Sweden within the next year or two. Despite being young, the winger is vastly experienced and he is clearly a natural leader.
