‘I was dreaming’ – Reguilon comments on throwback picture with ex-Spurs man

Sergio Reguilon has revealed he asked Gareth Bale for a picture as a youngster at Real Madrid because he was the biggest fan of the former Tottenham man.

Reguilon left Madrid to join Spurs in the summer of 2020 alongside Bale, who spent the campaign on loan, when an old photo of the pair emerged on social media.

It showed the left-back, presumably in the Los Blancos academy at the time, in a tracksuit next to the Welshman before the pair became teammates at both Real Madrid and Spurs.

Asked to comment further on the reasons behind the photo, Reguilon explained that it was simply because he considered Bale to be his idol and later found playing alongside him a dream.

He also revealed that they are still keep in contact to this day, despite Bale having returned to parent club Madrid for the final year of his contract.

Reguilon told Tottenhan’s official Twitter account: “I was waiting for Gareth because I was the biggest fan of Gareth. He knows, he knows, he knows. I always speak about that.

“When I looked at Gareth I went running there and I said, ‘Gareth, Gareth, please a picture!’ He said, ‘Okay yes, of course’, and after five years I was playing with him.

“For me, I was dreaming, to play with my idol and we’re still speaking now.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is pretty cool to see Reguilon’s growth from becoming a fan of Bale as a youth player to playing alongside him for Real Madrid and then Spurs.

The two linked up well during their one season at Spurs and we may see Bale make a third return once his Madrid expires at the end of the season.
