‘I was just mad’ – Spurs star reveals he didn’t talk after the final whistle at Everton

Micky van de Ven has admitted that he was so furious after Tottenham threw away two points against Everton that he decided not to speak in the changing room after the full-time whistle.

As expected, Spurs endured a challenging afternoon at Goodison Park, with the home side making the game into quite a physical one and putting Tottenham under immense pressure with each set-piece opportunity.

It looked like the Lilywhites had done enough to come away with a huge three points as they were quite comfortable for much of the second half.

However, the home side netted an equaliser in stoppage time, with a set-piece once again proving the undoing for Ange Postecoglou’s men.

Micky Van de Ven was angry at Everton draw

Van de Ven looked distraught in his post-match interview with Tottenham’s official channel, with the centre-back repeating several times that the away side should have put the game to bed in the second period.

The Dutchman has echoed a similar sentiment to football.london after the full-time whistle, admitting that he and his teammates should have defended set-pieces better.

When asked what he said in the dressing room after the game, the 22-year-old responded: “I was just mad so I don’t talk. We’re really disappointed. We should have killed the game in the end but we didn’t do that.

“We knew Everton were really good at set pieces and they scored two goals from set pieces so it’s not good for us. We have to watch it back to see what we could do better and next time we will fix it so they don’t score.

“It was a physical game. We know how they play, long balls, fight, headers, second balls. It was a tough game. The second half we played quite well, the first half we were struggling a bit. We have to kill it in the end.”

Spurs Web Opinion

One can understand why the players were hurting as three points on Saturday would have been monumental in the context of our season. However, truth be told, we did not deserve to win at Goodison Park and the performance showed that we are still a long way off from the best sides in the Premier League.
