‘I was shocked’ – Son admits that the extent of his injury took him by surprise

Son Heung-min has admitted that he was left shocked by the extent of the damage to his arm following the 3-2 win over Aston Villa back in March.

Son scored twice in the game, including a late winner to give the Lilywhites a crucial three points. Despite, sustaining the injury to his right arm in the opening moments of the match at Villa Park, the forward soldiered on for the ninety minutes.

However, scans after the game confirmed that the Spurs forward had actually fractured his arm.

Speaking about the injury blow, Son told Spurs TV: “I felt very bad after the Villa game, I didn’t realise how bad that was.  It was just emotional you know, how we celebrate in the last minute

“I went to the hospital and saw the X-ray, I was shocked.”

With Premier League action being suspended for the last three months, 27-year-old completed his three-week military service back in South Korea during the break but admitted that he missed seeing his teammates on a regular basis.

He said: “It was painful because football is my life… not training with the guys, not enjoying football.

“I’m very excited because after the military service, I missed the guys. I’ve almost seen every player come back with a smile, and it’s an amazing feeling.”

The forward also revealed that he is getting back towards his peak fitness and that the squad is raring to go for the resumption of the Premier League.

Son added: “I’m physically fine, I’m working really, really hard to be at my maximum level and I’m nearly there.

“Now we can train together, we’re training more than the last two weeks and the players – Moussa (Sissoko) is back, Harry (Kane) is back, Stevie (Bergwijn) is back, everyone wants to play again and everyone is motivated.”

Spurs Web Opinion

A lot of people have pointed out how Harry Kane needed the extended six-month break due to the amount of football he has played over the last few years. If anything, Son needed it more given that he has been involved in nearly every game for club and country over the last four to five years. Hopefully, we will get to see the best of the South Korean now that he has recharged his batteries.
