‘I was very concerned’ – Tottenham legend identifies key moment that changed club’s dynamic this season

Tottenham legend, Gary Mabbutt believes that the return of Gareth Bale has completely altered the dressing room dynamic at the club and has had a big influence on the impressive start Jose Mourinho’s side have made to the season.

It was all doom and gloom in the white half of North London after the club’s opening day defeat to Everton. However, Tottenham have not lost a Premier League game since and are now even being mentioned as potential title contenders.

Bale has not had the impact that he would have hoped for since his return to Spurs but there have been signs over the past couple of weeks that the Welshman is regaining his sharpness.

Irrespective of the impact the 31-year-old has had on the pitch, Mabbutt believes his influence away from it cannot be overstated.

He also admitted that he is excited by what he is currently seeing from Jose Mourinho’s men this season.

The former Tottenham captain told We Are Tottenham TV (as relayed by TBR Football): “[After] the first two games… I was very concerned.

“But what is incredible [is] – I’m not sure if people realise it – just the re-signing of Gareth Bale, the impact that has had, how it’s changed the dynamics in the dressing room, the belief of the players.”

“We’ve now got a manager that has won 25 titles; we’ve brought in Joe Hart, who has won many titles; we’ve brought in Gareth, who has won everything; and so adding that to the squad that we’ve got.

“Plus, we’ve had the best transfer window we’ve had for a long time, and when I look at our squad now, I’m very excited and watching the games recently, I think things are starting to fall into place.”
