‘I will never forget’ – Tottenham star grateful to Conte for making him better

Ivan Perisic has said that he will always be grateful to Antonio Conte and his coaching staff for helping him improve as a player, and vowed to give ‘everything’ to turn Tottenham’s results around.

There is now a sense of inevitability about the way Conte’s project at Spurs will end, with the Lilywhites struggling to pick up results consistently over the last few months.

The Italian is yet to commit his future to the club beyond the end of the season and predictions over recent days have indicated that he could part ways with the North London club in the summer (Sky Italia via Tutto Juve).

Conte is currently recovering from his gallbladder surgery in his family home in Italy, with Cristian Stellini overseeing proceedings at Hotspur Way.

Reports indicate that while there is no fixed timeline for the Tottenham head coach’s return, the club are hopeful that he will be back in time for the return leg against AC Milan on March 8 (Telegraph).

Perisic, who Conte was instrumental in bringing to Spurs in the summer, has now said that he and his teammates will look to win as many games as possible to help the 53-year-old steer the ship around.

The Croat told FC Inter News about Conte: “Everyone knows how he works. He was strong as a player and now he’s strong as a manager. I learned a lot from him.

“We won the Scudetto, something fantastic that I will never forget. Now we have many games in the Premier League. We will give everything to try and win as many as possible.”

It is evident that the players hold Conte in high esteem and are keen for him to stick around in the club. In fact, one cannot really question the players’ effort or commitment over recent months, despite the decline in results. It just seems like Conte was the wrong fit for Tottenham at this time.
