‘I will speak well with my agents’ – Reported Spurs target opens up on his future

Dayot Upamecano has hinted that he might leave RB Leipzig in the summer, amidst links with a move to Tottenham.

Upamecano, who missed Leipzig’s 1-0 victory against Spurs on Wednesday with a knee injury, is reported to be coveted by Tottenham as well as their North London rivals, Arsenal.

The centre half has been outstanding for Leipzig for the last couple of seasons and has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga.

Recent reports have suggested that Spurs are in the market for a centre back in the summer as Jose Mourinho attempts to rebuild his backline (The Express).

It has previously been reported that the Premier League is Upamecano’s dream destination (Bild).

The 21-year-old has now further fueled speculation linking him with a move away from Leipzig by revealing that he has many admirers.

Mundodeportivo quotes Upamecano as saying: “As I said, first I focus on RB Leipzig and then about what I intend to do, but there are clubs that love me.

“I will speak well with my agents and my parents at the end of the season. And we will make the right decision.”

The report in Mundo Deportivo reveals that the French defender has a release clause of €60 million but will be available for around €50 million in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Upamecano certainly fits with the profile of our recent signings as he is quite young and has tremendous potential to grow as a player. However, the jury is still out on whether he will be able to walk into the side and improve it straight away. I believe he will likely have a learning curve in English football for his first year and a half, much like Davinson Sanchez did.
