‘I wouldn’t have believed you’ – Maddison reveals what has surprised him at Spurs

James Maddison has revealed that he has been pleasantly surprised by how quickly he has settled into life at Tottenham and admitted that the environment at the club has been so welcoming.

Even though Maddison only arrived at Spurs in the summer, it feels like the attacking midfielder has already been playing for the club for several years.

The 26-year-old has almost instantly become a fan favourite and has emerged as one of the leaders of the side, having been made vice-captain by Ange Postecoglou.

One could tell from the attacking midfielder’s body language during the North London Derby that he understood what the fixture meant to Spurs fans.

Maddison certainly made a mark on the encounter, setting up both of Son Heung-min’s goals as the Lilywhites came away with a deserved 2-2 draw.

Even James Maddison is surprised by his own form

The former Leicester City man has now admitted that while he was always confident about doing well at Spurs, he certainly did not expect to win the Player of the Month award straight away.

Maddison told Viaplay: “The people at the club are brilliant, they have made me feel right at home. And the person and character that I am, I am quite confident and have a lot of self-belief so I didn’t have any doubts that I would be able to go in.

“It probably happened even quicker than I thought, if you had said to me I would be Premier League player of the month in my first month, I wouldn’t have believed you. But that’s down to my teammates enabling me to express myself and be the person and player that I am.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While there was no doubt about Maddison’s quality as a player, I did not realise how much of an impact his addition would have on the dressing room and squad morale.

The 26-year-old is exactly the sort of character that we needed to fill the void left by the departures of some big names in the summer.
