Ian Wright sounds warning to Middlesbrough after drawing Spurs in FA Cup

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has warned Middlesbrough that they cannot afford to make mistakes against Tottenham Hotspur face the consequences of Harry Kane.

Middlesbrough came from behind to cause an upset in the fourth round of the FA Cup to beat Manchester United 8-7 penalties at Old Trafford to secure their place in the draw.

Boro’s reward for their efforts against the former Premier League champions is to welcome Antonio Conte’s Tottenham to the Riverside Stadium in the fifth round later this month.

Kane was in impressive form against Brighton last night, opening the scoring with a pin-point curling effort from the edge of the box in the first half.

The striker got his second in the second half when he tapped home from close range following a driving run from Heung-min Son.

Wright believes that if Boro make the same mistakes that they did against United, they will be put to the sword in front of goal by Kane.

Wright said on ITV (11:47am, February 6, 2022) moments after the draw for the fifth round was made: “If they give Harry Kane the chances they gave to Man United, they are out. That’s a great draw for Tottenham, to be honest.”

Kane showed yesterday that he is starting to rediscover the lethal finishing that he used to display from outside of the penalty area under Mauricio Pochettino. There is no doubt that the return of the pressing style which Conte has employed is leading to further opportunities for Kane to catch opponents on the back foot.
