‘I’d be really shocked’ – Paul Merson makes confident Harry Kane prediction

Paul Merson has claimed he would be really shocked if Harry Kane does not find the back of the net against Leeds United on Sunday.

Kane has struggled for form at club level so far this season, with the striker having scored just once in ten Premier League matches.

There was a lot said and written about the 28-year-old’s struggles heading into the international break but the England captain answered his critics in perfect fashion by scoring seven goals in the Three Lions’ thrashing of Albania and San Marino.

Tottenham fans will be hoping that the goals over the international break have opened the floodgates for Kane and that the striker can carry that momentum to club level.

Merson backed Kane to do so, predicting the striker will net a brace against the Leeds defence on Sunday. The former Arsenal midfielder backed Antonio Conte to register a comfortable win in his first home Premier League game in charge of the Lilywhites.

Merson told Sportskeeda: “I’d be really shocked if Harry Kane doesn’t score in this game.

“The international break was really good for him – it doesn’t get any better than seven goals from two games.

“It could turn out to be the kick-start he needs to get his scoring boots on in the Premier League and the way Leeds United play could also work in his favour.

“I’m going for a 2-0 Tottenham win in Antonio Conte’s first home game in charge of the club, with Kane continuing his fine form by scoring both goals.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that Kane has never really had a barren spell like this one over the last seven years since he broke through at Spurs, there is no doubt that the striker’s confidence will have been massively affected.

Hopefully, the goals over the international break have helped restore some of his lost confidence. If he finds the back of the net against Leeds, I would not bet on him going on a fantastic run and potentially even catching up with the top runners for the Golden Boot.
