Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier grabbed the headlines on Wednesday night, but not for his performance at centre back or his cool penalty in the shootout.
Dier shocked the footballing world as he leapt over the advertising boards at full-time and climbed up around ten flights of seats to confront a fan.
It was later confirmed that Dier was actually desperately trying to reach his brother as he believed Patrick to be in danger (Express).
Dier did eventually reach his sibling and dragged him away safely, although the Tottenham man may face action for his display.
The FA are reportedly looking into the incident and Dier will accept any punishment that comes his way. Eric is said to expect either a ban or a fine (Express).
Jose Mourinho has now claimed that, despite his superior experience, he would do exactly the same if he saw his son in that position in the stands.
Football journalist Alasdair Gold reports Jose said:
Mourinho on Dier: “I’m much older than Eric and have more years in football and as you know I was born a footballer’s son and grew up as a footballer’s manager. If I saw something happening with my son I’d do the same. I wouldn’t think two seconds about doing the same.”
