“I’d happily take him” – Some fans welcome reports Spurs are keen on defender

Some Spurs fans have welcomed the news that the club have reportedly made contact with RB Leipzig over a deal for Nordi Mukiele.

The versatile defender, who can play at right-back as well as at centre-back, has gone from strength to strength this season and has established himself as an important part of Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

L’Equipe (23/04/20, page 7 – as relayed by GFFN) reported earlier this week that the defender’s performances in Leipzig’s 4-0 aggregate demolition of Tottenham in the Champions League round of sixteen, made a real impression on the Spurs hierarchy.

It was thus claimed that Spurs have now made contact with the player’s entourage in order to try and bring him to North London.

Le10 Sport claimed in 2018 that Tottenham were keen to secure the signing of Mukiele from Montpellier before he made the move to the Bundesliga outfit.

A few fans took to social media to insist that the Leipzig star would be the perfect signing for the Lilywhites:

While Mukiele might be more expensive than the likes of Max Aarons or Thomas Meunier, I actually believe that he will be the most cost-effective signing we can make this summer due to his ability to cover and both centre-half and right-back. Signing him would mean that we don’t need to look for another central defender if Vertonghen leaves, and can spend out transfer kitty on a top defensive midfielder and a forward.
