‘If Gareth is motivated’ – Modric speaks on Bale’s Real Madrid future

Luka Modric has claimed that Gareth Bale can be an important player for Real Madrid next season should he decide to see out the final year of his contract at the club.

It remains to be seen where Bale will play his football next season, with contradictory claims being made in the press over the last few months.

Some sources have suggested that Tottenham do have the option to extend the 31-year-old’s loan deal by another season but other reports have indicated that the forward plans to remain in the Spanish capital next season.

The return of Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid could also potentially have an impact on Bale’s decision, with the Italian seemingly opening the door for the Wales international to remain at the club next season.

Modric noted that Bale thrived during Ancelotti’s first spell with Los Blancos but admitted that he has no idea what his teammate has planned for next season.

When asked Bale, the former Spurs star told talkSPORT: “I don’t know what will happen in the new season.

“He’s (Bale) a great guy and we spent a lot of years together in Spurs and Madrid. It was a great time with him.

“Hopefully we meet in this tournament (Euros) at a later stage. That would mean we both make it through our groups and further. We will see what will happen in the new season.

“Gareth was playing well with Carlo [Ancelotti] in his first spell and if Gareth is motivated and hungry for football, he can be helpful for Real Madrid.”
