‘If he stays’ – Brentford manager makes statue claim about Christian Eriksen

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has claimed Christian Eriksen would have a statue built for him in the near future if he stays at the club and joked he would ‘hug and kiss’ the midfielder daily if he committed himself.

Eriksen has been rejuvenated since being handed a six-month deal by the Bees in January, in what was his return to football after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020.

He has shone during his time in west London so far, helping Brentford into a comfortable mid-table position in the Premier League which will likely draw the attention of plenty of suitors when his deal runs out at the end of term.

Tottenham have been credited with an interest in re-signing Eriksen (90min), with the Dane spending the best part of seven years of his career in North London.

However, Frank is hoping Brentford will be able to retain Eriksen and the 30-year-old will commit his future to the club, suggesting he would show him plenty of affection if he did so.

Frank told broadcaster James Green: “If he stays, he will have a statue outside the stadium in three years’ time. I would hug and kiss him every day!”

A potential return to Tottenham for Eriksen could see him reunited with Antonio Conte after the pair enjoyed a successful period with Inter Milan.

The Dane joined the Italian side after departing Spurs in January 2020 and eventually went on to secure last season’s Serie A title.

It is not surprising that Brentford, and Frank for that matter, want to keep Eriksen beyond this season as he has been such a revelation for them.

At the end of the day, it will be down to Eriksen himself on his next move as his contract is running out soon, but he could repay Brentford’s faith by committing his future there.
