‘If someone is disappointed’ – Conte reacts to Ndombele performance

Antonio Conte has reacted to Tanguy Ndombele’s performance against Morecambe this afternoon, revealing he felt he had to replace the Frenchman with added firepower in the second half. 

Tottenham were 1-0 down to the Shrimps come the 70th-minute mark and Ndombele had been largely ineffective on and off the ball for the Lilywhites.

Conte decided to make a change and replace the Frenchman, along with Dele Alli and Bryan Gil, with Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Oliver Skipp.

That turned out to be a managerial masterclass as Spurs equalised shortly after through a Harry Winks free-kick, before substitutes Moura and Kane netted to make it 3-1.

Ndombele was booed off the pitch and walked straight down the tunnel, with Conte claiming you have to try and change people’s opinion of you when they are disappointed in football. He even revealed that he experienced the same thing as a player in the past.

Conte said (Football London): “I was so focused on the pitch and in football you have to be good to try to change your opinion if someone is disappointed with you.

“It happened to me as well as a player with someone being disappointed in my performance.”

He added: “I think during the game you have to try the best solution to find something, especially I’m seeing that we are losing 1-0 and you have to try to change something.

“Especially when you have on the bench, players of top-level. I decided to give a bit of a rest to Lucas and Kane, but if you can change the situation and you have this type of player.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I’m not sure I see a way back for Ndombele at Tottenham anymore. He seems destined to go back to Ligue 1 or transfer to La Liga/Serie A to showcase his skills without having to put in as much effort as is needed in the Premier League.
