Tottenham Hotspur’s attention now turns to Europe, with Igor Tudor offering an early injury update on his squad ahead of a crucial Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid.

Focus is now on Tottenham Hotspur‘s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

The Lilywhites managed a top-five finish in the league phase and, as such, avoided the play-off round of games.

However, Diego Simeone’s side took the longer route, but that will matter little now that the round of 16 is kicking off and the focus is on progressing to the next round.

Djed Spence returns for Tottenham

Igor Tudor will hope that a change of scenery in a new competition sparks life into a side that has been struggling for form.

Spurs are without a win in their last five Premier League outings, but in Europe so far they have lost just once, with the defeat coming in November against defending champions PSG.

Coming into this tie, Tudor has a few boosts, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven expected to be available for selection.

Romero missed Spurs’ last four Premier League games due to suspension, but is now available again. van de Ven picked up a red card against Crystal Palace in Tottenham’s last league match, but is free to feature here in Europe.

However, several usual absentees remain, with Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Ben Davies, Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Bergvall, Rodrigo Bentancur, Wilson Odobert and Destiny Udogie all sidelined.

Djed Spence trained with the first-team at Hotspur Way this morning having recovered from a minor calf injury.

Tudor has now provided an injury update on his Tottenham squad ahead of Tuesday’s clash.

Speaking to the official Tottenham website, he said: “”Well, first XI, as you know, we never say, but the players who are in this position, you saw this morning in the training, so we are happy that Romero is back, Djed is back. Bissouma is not in Souza because of the rules of the Champions League. So the players are coming back, that’s important.

“For the first time that I’m here, we will have, let’s say, available players to play in defensive side the players we usually play. So all three games happen that we miss the players on their positions and we miss the players who are usually playing.

“So a beautiful game to play tomorrow, so a totally different competition than the Premier League. There is a good experience from this season, past games, so let’s see what happens tomorrow.”
