‘I’ll be watching’ – Alderweireld sends Spurs good luck message for the season

Toby Alderweireld has sent Tottenham a good luck message for the new season following his North London exit earlier this summer.

Spurs get their season underway this afternoon when they welcome Premier League champions Manchester City to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Alderweireld called an end to his North London journey at the end of July after spending six seasons at Tottenham. During that time, the centre-back played 236 games for Spurs, scoring nine goals and assisting another five with those trademark long balls.

While initial reports claimed Spurs had managed to sell the Belgian defender for £13m, it was later claimed that the fee was closer to £3m.

Alderweireld will be playing his next season in Qatar ahead of the World Cup which will be hosted there, pulling on the colours of Al-Duhail instead of his usual Lilywhite jersey.

During his time in North London, Alderweireld was a huge part of the positive growth surrounding the club under Pochettino, including an appearance in the Champions League final.

Toby sent the following message to Spurs on Twitter: ‘Thumbs up if you’re excited for the Premier League to start. Good luck this season Spurs, I’ll be watching #COYS.’
